You only need four simple ingredients to make this easy homemade strawberry sauce. This recipe contains no cornstarch and you can use fresh or frozen strawberries. It's the perfect strawberry topping for cheesecake, ice cream, shortcake, and more.
In a medium saucepan combine the strawberries, sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla.
Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
Once boiling, reduce heat and simmer 20-23 minutes or until thickened, stir occasionally.
Remove from heat and transfer to a glass jar to cool completely before using.
Notes
Strawberries: Fresh or frozen berries will work for this recipe. There's no need to thaw frozen berries.
Make ahead tip:
Refrigerate - Once the strawberry sauce has cooled completely, cover it tightly and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Strawberry sauce will thicken after refrigeration, so microwave for 15 seconds to thin out if desired.Makes about 1 1/2 cups.
