Place sugar, water, vinegar, cornstarch, and ketchup in a medium saucepan.
Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir continuously until the mixture has thickened, about 3 minutes.
Let the sauce cool completely and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
