Elevate your dishes with homemade balsamic glaze, also known as balsamic reduction! This delicious condiment is crafted by simmering balsamic vinegar until it thickens to a luscious maple syrup consistency. Sometimes, a hint of sweetness is added with ingredients like honey or sugar, enhancing its rich flavor. The result is a dark, glossy glaze that packs a punch of concentrated taste.

Why go homemade? The flavor and quality of ingredients in your own balsamic glaze far surpass anything you’ll find in the store. Plus, it’s super easy to make! With just 10 minutes of your time, you can whip up a batch that lasts for weeks, adding a tangy and savory touch to salads, grilled veggies, meats, and even desserts.

Ingredients

For the ingredient measurements and the entire recipe, be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the blog post where the recipe card is located.

  • Balsamic vinegar: Get a good quality Balsamic Vinegar.
  • Brown Sugar: This adds a little sweetness to the glaze and is completely optional.

Step by Step Directions

For the full recipe instructions, scroll down to the bottom of the blog post to the recipe card.

  1. Pour the balsamic vinegar and brown sugar into a saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil and let it reduce by half, until it lightly coats the back of a spoon.

Tips For Success

  • This recipe makes about 1 cup of balsamic reduction. It is easy to scale up or down, but if you’re doubling the recipe, it will take slightly longer to reduce. Along the same lines, if you’re cutting the recipe in half, it will cook faster.
  • If your glaze turns out too thick after cooking, don’t worry! Just warm it up and add a splash of water to bring it back to the perfect consistency. But remember to keep a close watch on it, especially during those final minutes. If it starts to burn, it’s game over, and you won’t be able to fix it.
